Anti Bark Collar
Some dog owners can’t live without an anti bark collar. When pet dogs start yapping sessions
that last for hours, a collar could be one solution to consider. Before you think of adopting the same solution
though, you might want to look into some facts first that could help you make a more informed decision.
Barking Problems
It is a fact that barking is a normal activity for dogs. A dog can hardly be called one if it
doesn’t bark. Excessive dog barking however can be a real pain to bear. This is true not only for dog owners but
for anyone within hearing range as well. If you don’t look for ways to solve the problem, you can easily suffer
from strained relationships with your neighbors. You might even become the subject of filed complaints. Depending
on where you live, you could get fined for your barking dog. This is why it is a serious responsibility to look for
a solution.
Possible Solutions
There are a couple of possible solutions to the problem of excessive barking. The most humane
solution is to send a dog to training or obedience school. This option however may prove expensive for some people
and may not always provide effective results. Even if training is effective, reinforcement outside of formal
training grounds is necessary so dog owners have to learn to reinforce good behavior too. That means owners need a
lot of time to learn and to train their own dogs.
Aside from training there are other faster solutions. Some owners choose to permanently silence
their pets through the surgical removal of vocal chords. Some dogs that have severe barking problems are
euthanized.
Collars as Solutions
Needless to say, an anti bark collar is more humane than surgery or euthanasia. They also often
provide faster and more instant results than long term training. This is why some dog owners choose this option.
You should know though that not everyone agrees to the use of some types of collars.
Collars can be grouped according to three types. The first type emits an ultrasonic sound. The
second type emits citronella. The third type uses electricity to shock excessive barkers.
Some pet owners maintain that spray and ultrasonic collars are the only types that should be
used. These types of collars give dogs the least level of pain and discomfort. Shock collars on the other hand can
be painful disciplinary tools depending on the collar setting and are therefore avoided by some owners.
The usual problem is that spray and ultrasonic collars may sometimes be ineffective. Some dogs
may experience behavior modification at first only to relapse once they have gotten used to their collars. Since
shock collars use electricity, they have a higher chance of curbing dog behavior than either of the other two
types.
Without a doubt, an anti bark collar can be of good use to you as a dog owner. You may however,
have some issues regarding its use. If this is the case, you might want to try training your dog first before using
a collar.
