No Bark Collar
While many pet owners are against the idea of having a no bark collar for their dog because of
allegations that it is an inhumane or cruel practice, there are many reasons that make this collar a wise
purchase.
Lifestyle Factors
Some dog owners may have the luxury of living in spacious residences where their pets may roam
the grounds freely without disturbing the neighbors, but in reality, this is quite rare. Most people live in
congested urban areas, and the sound of an unruly dog barking may bother the people living in the same or
neighboring building. Having a no bark collar is a courtesy to these neighbors.
If the dog owner’s lifestyle involves having visitors around the house frequently, a barking dog
may also alarm these guests. Even if the dog is chained up or doesn’t bite, barking can startle these visitors or
make them uncomfortable at the least. No matter how well trained the dog is, there may always be some unexpected
circumstance that causes him to bark- such as a stray cat passing by or a sudden noise. A dog with a no bark collar
is prevented from disrupting such social occasions.
Some communities may also have strict guidelines regarding misbehaving pets. It might not be so
easy for his owner to modify a dog’s behavior in time before he is given a notice, especially if the pet is new and
untrained. A no bark collar keeps the dog under control while it is not yet capable of controlling itself.
Method of Training
A no bark collar is a quicker, more efficient method of training a dog. Training a pet involves
the combination of positive reinforcement, which is giving rewards each time the pet does something right, and
negative reinforcement, which is a form of punishment each time it does something wrong. A no bark collar is a form
of negative reinforcement, which is necessary to establish discipline in the dog. The bonus is that the owner does
not have to inflict the punishment himself each time it misbehaves, which can be impossible if the owner is out at
work. This way, even in his absence, the dog is being trained.
Safeguard Against Insects
Some of these collars, especially the citronella spray collars, prevent mosquitoes and some
other insects from biting the dog. This is because citronella is a natural insect repellent.
More Humane
This may sound ironic, considering how some pet owners are against the practice of using a no
bark collar precisely because they think it is inhumane. However, a dog that barks excessively might become an
annoyance to the community to the point that his removal is recommended. Rather than have him exterminated or taken
to the pound, a behavior modification intervention would be less cruel to both the pet and his owner.
These are the advantages that a no bark collar offers not only to the pet and pet owner, but to
their entire community.
